Hiya,

I've managed and worked in photo labs and find that its best to go to a place that does PURE black and white processing. Most places use colour chemicals to get a black and white effect which isn't the same as you can get warm and cool tones (sometimes this is prefferable tho).

As mentioned above, CPL in st kilda can do a good job. I tend to go to Vanbar in Carlton (had a bad experience at CPL once)..but if you go to vanbar, remember to tell them to turn off their automatic white balance! Both labs have the new fuji machines which although use colour chemicals, the staff have enough knowledge to know what a good black and white print should look like (as they both do B&W hand processing).
