Kats and Kittens. Wind warning extracted below was issued for Wimmera this morning. Can the veterans pls look into their crystal balls and predict the impact on Araps/Grampians? Would you be stearing clear of the whole area? What are those pines like in the wind? Recommendations on where to go given the weather? Many thanks. Ado

VICTORIAN SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for Localised Damaging Winds
For people in the Wimmera, Western, North Central, Central, Alpine and Gippsland
districts of Victoria.
Issued at 4:35 am EST on Friday 10 August 2007

Northwest winds will average 50 to 70km/h with gusts of around 90km/h during
Friday morning, mainly in elevated areas and near the coast. Gusts around
100km/h are likely over Alpine areas.

Winds are likely to increase further this afternoon and evening locally
averaging 60 to 80km/h with gusts to 110km/h, and averaging 80 to 100km/h over
Alpine areas with gusts around 130km/h.

In the interests of community safety the SES suggests some simple precautions:
Secure any loose objects in the vicinity of your house, beware of fallen
powerlines and, if you are boating, then return to shore as soon as possible"
