the few people I know that have tried to climb in Vietnam & Laos have been disappointed. stuff round HaLong Bay was developed a while ago & hasn't been maintained (read: crusty rusty stress-corrosion-cracking expanison bolts). The rock is generally a lot sharper, more friable & lower quality compared to Tonsai (I know people who went there not long after it was developed, & they headed back to Tonsai pretty quick). Phillipino climbers head to Thailand for climbing trips regularly, not sure what that says about climbing in the Phillippines. anyway take this with a grain of salt (I've only ever been to Tonsai) so this nothing more than other people's opinions...
