Stuck Ropes While Bailing |

I was climbing by myself in the Ramparts (Moonarie) one day when I decided to drop one of my (uncoiled) ropes from about 4 pitches up and hopefully pick it up after I'd topped out. Not my smartest decision as, although the drop route looked smooth and OK, only one end made it to the ground. The rope was stuck about 35m up and no amount of pulling...
When I got up to it the next day I discovered a perfect alpine butterfly looped over a spike in a crack. I assume that's not easy to do! The moral is don't drop ropes unless you have to. |
