nevermind the bolts....what about the bees?

If you really want an ethics debate: whlich flipping asshole recently took it on themself to exterminate the bees on several Arapiles classics?

Amongst these routes were collision course. Yes the bees were inconvenient, but it was still possible to climb the route - and many people had climbed it without disturbing the bees or being stung.

Regardless of the climbability of the route - there are THOUSANDS of routes at Arapiles. If one of them can't be climbed it is hardly the end of the world. Were these animals 'just' bees? Is it ok to kill a native species just because they're an insect? How would you feel if someone did the same to nesting falcons - they're just as inconvenient to your days climbing.

As someone who is generally not in favour of bolting - I have to say that directly exterminating the natural fauna of a cliff is a far bigger and more destructive impact on our natural environment than leaving a few rusty old bolts in place (whether they be left 20 years ago by the first ascensionist or by us now).

GET SOME RESPECT.

The bees are not natives mate. Native Australian bees are tiny black ant looking critters, which don't
sting.

With all the arguement, discussions, and what not going on with the 'de-bolt Rosea' thread no-one has stooped to level of full blown personal insult like the above.

If you read the threads Neil linked you will find out why the bees were dealt with.

How about you ..................................

Ok - I was unaware they're 'feral' bees. I still think it's fairly heavy handed, but it was really unilateral action against what I thought were native bees that 'bugged' me.

cheers for the links nmontieth - the original threads where much more amusing. 3 votes for extermination doesn't seem many but it'll probably bee best forgotten....

Also interesting to perhaps note that a fellow nearly lost his life recently, when climbing a route that has
european bees on it, he did'nt know they were there, and was stung many times, he did know of a
reaction he has to wallnuts, sends him into an anaphylactic shock, only after being stung did he learn of
his allergic reaction to these overseas pests, thankfully he is still alive (an epipen was soloed up to him
in time), no thanks to the feral bees.
I would like to thank all volunteers for the feral bees extermination! job well done!!!

Yeah. Death to the bees.

BomberPro Belayed me on Collision Course and those bees were back. Mind you this was about 6months ago. I was stung.... about 5 hours later. Sitting in the pines, drinking beer.

All bees must die!
