As for the lead thing...from what I've seen there is a pretty strict policy about lead tags. I think it shows taht the climber has passed a proficiency test and the gym has given permission for the climber toclimb. If yo'ure not wearing one, the staff could assume that you haven't been through one of hthese tests. Politely waiting for someone to finish there climb can be legally hazardous. What if an accident occured before they came down? Then you find out that they never went through a lead test! I would have to say that in this case, the staff was in the right.

If your overseas, the gyms may be set up different?

As for general rudeness... well I wasn't tehre so I can't say.

As for bad for the businesses image. I would prefer professional staff who knew their stuff working at the gym than a bunch of macdonalds you-must-smile-and-APPEAR-friendly- to-customers approach.
