I can see where you're coming from. I think it's because blue is unusual by being 2 consonants followed by 2 vowels. People reading "Bluies" would probably realize that whatever you're referring to is blue - this is the important point, so don't shred those Cruxes. But if, for example, you wrote you spotted a couple of joies in the Grose Valley, there could be a problem. They are, of course, joeys. Two friends called Joe would be known as the Joeys.
