Regulating the rope size use in the gym is one step towards eliminating potential injuries.
As with Gri-Gri's other belay devices can also be incorrectly threaded. Imagine the disaster of not clipping the rope through the biner whilst using an ATC? It's an easy mistake to be made, just as threading the Gri-Gri incorrectly is. Although easier to pick up on, yes.
If regulating rope size is easliy done, so should educating the instructors on how to spot incorrect threadings of the rope, they just have to ask themselves which end should the climbers end come out of, biner end or non biner end of the Gri-Gri?
Or something as simple as a sign saying "Are you threaded correctly, Are you doubled back?" or "Have you double checked your partner?" could get those easily distracted climbers thinking twice about their actions.
This ban of Gri-Gri's doesn't effect me, but surely there are other viable options out there?
