Do whatever you like to a photo. As long as you don't represent that 'this is a true and accurate photographic reproduction of the scene' then there can't be any issue can there?

But there is one thing that annoys me, and that's computer enhanced depth of field fudging. By which I mean blurring bits of the photo but not others. I have no ethical problem with it, but I think it looks very silly when this isn't done in a manner which looks at all realistic. eg I have seen photos where the line across the photo that is focussed is not all in the same plane (all the same distance from the camera). This is a great effect, but it looks stupid (and unrealistic) when it is used arbitrarily rather than to create a true depth of field effect.
