Time wasting can be lethal

It has come to my knowledge today that a friend has now been banned from accessing Chockstone from his work e-mail....

What is the world coming to when you can't enjoy good old fashioned chit chat amongst climbers when you're really meant to be working?

i'd be surprised at that.
I can't really monitor the bandwidth usage of people at work but the sites that are most continuously used are online shopping and banking sites and I suspect that would be true elsewhere.
From an IT managers perspective, I can see why companies might exclude non-work sites. My budget pays for my company's internet use and the cost is significant.
I access Chockstone from my home account out of hours because I cannot afford to have a conflict between my private internet use and work.
I can understand someone being annoyed that their site access is cut off but I also see the other side. Another tack people might take with their companies is to allow free access during business down-times : lunchtime, the first couple of hours before and after normal hours. Some companies are amenable to this. It depends on the reason for the restriction : if it's bandwidth useage, you haven't a prayer; if it's useage during work hours that is the problem, you might have a show.

Not sure about it being lethal - but it sure is ideal for procrastinating!

Especially when that nagging job needs to be finished and it's giving you the........
