The situation is, your sitting in the pines at araps and some dude wants to climb with you. You can't go to the gym and check out his belaying style, he hasn;t got his gear on him to have a look at, and by the time you have walked up to the cliff, you have allready chosen a climb and if you can ask about his belaying style before you start, there is little you can do if its bad. He wanted to do this climb which for him is relatively easy and for a bit of a challenge (and by the time you get to the easier second pitch you are leading you are commited anyway).

So I avoid the situation at the start - I do not climb with strangers.

But I will meet people on internet forums however .. once traveled through europe with someone I never met till i got there...so if any one wants to cycle from London to Cape Horn let me know !!

Some risks you take because otherwise what's the point of being alive, other risks you avoid so you can live longer to take more of the risks you like !!
