G'day all,
I know this is a Victorian site, but someone can probably still help. I was wondering if someone could tell me how easy it'd be to find low-end work in the Blueys, such as bar or floor stuff, and survive? I'm toying with the idea of moving up there next year, but I'd like to know whether it's possible to survive first :)
Cheers,
James

Knew someone who survived working for others as a tree lopper.
Sorry LJ, ... I don't have the contact anymore.

IF you just want dishpigging work, labouring etc you will be fine, there is also penrith (45min by car - 1hr by train) where there is work.
I also hear that the government sponsor a number of climbers, just not the best deal :P

its definately possible! labouring etc is around but hard to get until you get a foot in the door...katoomba (toontown) is where all the work is- outdoor shops, cafes, pubs, hotels, supermarket, random retail shops etc is probably the easiest. if youve got ya shit together you could look at guiding for one of the several punter co.s in town. im also moving back up in a few days and will probly heasd for some guiding work so i might see ya round?!
as for living there, blackheath or mt vic are top choices imo
anyhow cyall

James from experience it's never been too hard to find that type of work in the Blueys. If you've got your RSA and you don't have too many abnormal growths then you should have little trouble finding work in a pub :)
Do it!

Rad. It's decided then - I'll be moving up sometime early next year, soon as I have the cash. :)
While we're on the topic, how hard is it going to be find a sharehouse or a spare room somewhere? How much should I be looking at paying?

$100 a week would cover rent. electricity and gas in most share houses up here, you can get it for less too ($80).
finding a room is pretty easy, finding a room AND nice people, thats a bit harder :) , not really though :)
