One fairly stupid thing I head of was from a couple of Swedes I was climbing with o/s. Discussing various techniques they said that 'you ozzies are crazy - rapping of nut tools etc'. I wasn't sure exactly what they meant, and they proceeded to tell me that they had climbed in the bluies a few years back with some aussies who, when they needed to back of a route from a single bolt mid-pitch, would hook thier nut-tool through the bolt plate, and loop the rope through a biner attached to it. They'd then rap very gently and then flick the tool out when they got to the bottom. My friends thought it was a bit crazy, so when they had to back off they used 2 nut-tools just to be safe!

Don't know if this is common practice in the bluies, but i've never heard of it and thought it was a bit crazy.
