Climbers take protein powder to speed up recovery not to bulk up. Thus it is a good idea to stay away from the mega weight gain stuff and think carefully about using creatine which can result in significant weight gain.

I have been using protein supplements for a good year or so now and definetely notice the decrease in the time it takes me to recover from a day at the crag or a training session. I only use them after a session though, it gets way too expensive to use it on a daily basis. It is the training that gets you strong, all protein supplements do is possibly allow you to train more frequently at a high intensity.

As I stated before, a good balanced diet is the key, no point wasting money on supplements if your eating rubbish.
