International Roast actually has an even cheaper and nastier derivative called International Roast - Caterer's Blend. This brown powder bears absolutely no resemblance to coffee, instant or otherwise. It doesn't look, smell, or taste anything like coffee. In fact, I think the closest thing to it that I have drunk is probably Cava. Actually I think I enjoyed the Cava a whole lot more - so that's probably an unfair statement.

On the positive side, Caterer's Blend is brilliant when used as tile grout, or even as a substitute for Henna tattoos - as it stains the skin for a lot longer. I am pretty sure that all the little coffee stands at the airport use this stuff - only they seem to have perfected the art of adding sour, burnt milk to it, so that 3 minutes into your flight you are going to be ingnoring the Fasten Seatbelts sign, charging down the aisle to the smallest room on the plane and punishing all those poor sods living under the flight path.
