Climbing at the Cathedral ranges over the last couple of days, there was a party of climbers doing a route parallel to ours, we climbed later-on where thay had been and there was chalk everywhere - I mean everywhere - it was a mess. Every handhold was caked in a white coating all the way up the cliff. I can only presume this was the result of loose chalk in a chalk bag.

Firstly, at the Cathedrals you 'need' little or no chalk anyway - the rock is as sticky as you will find anywhere.

Secondly, putting your chalk inside an old sock and tying a knot in it will save you lots of chalk, and it will stop it falling out of your bag when you forget to close it later. But mostly it will stop you making it look like you dragged a 50kg sack of flour up the North Jawbone.
