Yeah i think there was some test done with a whole lot of dropped biners, and they all held their rated loads. I asked an engineer/climber friend of mine about this, and he reaconed that the reall issue is in the effect that dropping may have on the ability of the metal to withstand repeated loads or stress. After repeated loads, of even pretty low intensity, any piece of metal will break. He said that with a non-dropped biner, this will never happen within the life of the biner. The problem with the dropped one is that it might be fine for the next load or ten, but may fail after that. but then again- i'm no engineer, so this may be crap. James
