Warraguls with the approval of the landowner would be good I think, given the drive up access. The more popular climbing on the top level would be within talking distance of where the barby could be setup above, making the whole lunchtime thing that much easier. Last two gatherings there was difficulty getting people off the rock long enough to eat more or less at the same time, especially at Camels where they had to walk back to the road. The only disadvantages I see are dirt road access (though good enough for the family sedan), and a possible lack of super easy grades for newcomers. And maybe not quite enough volume of routes? Though this might work in our favour making the event more social. Still if nothing else it will surely get Kent to finally tick his "Alan Parson's Project", what with 50 odd people screaming at him to "stick it man!". ;-)
Black Hill certainly has a lot more routes, but the climbing is more spread out, and the barby, if it is to make an appearence, would probably have to remain at the carpark.
Now if we could get everyone to drive as far as Black Ian's Rocks, we'd be onto a winner I think. You've got the shed if it rains, 5 min access from the (dirt) road and endless top ropeable routes all closely spaced making for a great social atmosphere. Plus some easy lines for beginners. The only downer would be the distance from Melbourne, making it almost impossible for a day trip. |
