Perma-Ledge - taking things too far? 15-Aug-2012 At 2:48:19 PM cruze

I bet 99% of climbers (the only people who would ever go to the Goldmine) would walk under the overhanging choss cave and never even think to look up to see the permaledge which gives access to glorious rock on the headwall.

I think it is genius, and at the end of the day can easily be hauled up to the top of the cliff when all is said and done and not even climbers want to go there. It provides access (just in a slightly different way to the rungs/track/etc) to a handful of climbs, a number of which begin by traversing straightaway meaning that the belay/catch for a belayer hanging in space would be unpleasant.

It is a far less obtrusive than the stepped logs in the blueys which perform a similar function.

The comparison to Skink's semi-hanging belay could not be more inappropriate.
