I'd talk about the situation with trusted mates.
I have been around long enough to know of a number of close friends who have suffered depression in varying degrees.
As a result I have come to the conclusion that we all suffer depression to varying extent, but it is how we deal with it that counts.
It can be an insidious thing, and not likely to go away unless treated with positive thought process/feedback and or medication/s, or other more drastic measures...
(... like going climbing! ☺)
There are anonymous help-line (Beyond Blue comes first to mind), organisations that can help if people don't have someone to confide in. This will likely help more than discussions on a public forum that is prone to hijacks and unhelpful replies.
