How can a book full of epics not be good, and over a wide range of authors and history. Of all my climbing books, this is the one non-climbers seem to pick up and read.

Outstanding! Ditto to anonymous above. Would be 5 stars but I would have liked more pictures.

I'll also give this book a big thumbs up. It's a collection of extracts taken from some of the best climbing authors out there. The pieces choosen tend to be the most enthralling, captivating and exciting parts of the novels in question, and so we get a two fold effect; at once it's engaging, hard to put down reading, but at the same time, each piece ends all to abruptly (being an extract only), and thus I was left with the feeling of wanting to hear the rest of the story. Of course, this is entirely possible, all I'd have to do is get hold of the original books. So in a way, Epic, is like an advertisement for the original novels. You get to read an exciting couple of chapters from each story and then pick which ones you'd like to buy and complete reading.

There was only a couple of the stories that I didn't like. 95% of it was pure gold, if you're into true to life, epic mountaineering struggles. Highly recommended. I'm only docking it a star, because it is, after all, a collection of extracts from other books and not an original tale in and of itself.
