Lead Climbing Courses

I've been climbing (leadng indoor and top roping outside) for about a year now and I think it's about time I learnt to lead outside. When I was living back in the UK a mate started to teach me how to lead outside and place my own protection, but before I could learn anything of real use I moved down here.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good lead courses. I'm in currently in SA, so any course in this state would be great. Since I would probabely take time of work to do the course, any in Victoria would also be useful, as i don't mind travelling.

Great option would be using one of the guiding companies based in Natimuk climbing at Mt Arapiles (~450km from Adelaide)

edit: Damien beat me to it...
In regards to your Quiet Time topic Damien, if people post relevant climbing topics they get multiple responses quickly.

and I have found that if people (me) post stuff that is poorly worded / easily misconstrued, then they get even more responses, even quicker !!

I agree with Dalai recommendations to the specific question asked, or perhaps alternatively try and find a 'new' lead climbing mentor (or club) in your local area?

I can vouch for the VCC lead course. I did it a year ago from a position of having only climbed
indoors for years, had done indoor lead work but had no experience with outdoor setups; lead or
toproping.

The cost seemed like a big whack but as it ended up being a total of 6 days of supervised/
instructional climbing (Araps/Gramps), it seemed worth it. Call Peter Canning (5387 1337) and
talk specifics to see if it will give you what you want.

Cheers, Petter.

Not that it’s much help to you but the scout association runs a recognized lead cores and despite what some people say about scouts being doggie it does fit Vic standards as and a bunch of stuff was changed a while ago to improve the cores and no one passes that is un safe or cant climb the bard at raps (it’s are final test pace) and even if you can climb bard if you’re un safe or do doggy things reputably you don’t pass

Like I said it’s not much help to you bet fore any one ales out there that’s over 14.5 yr join you’re local Ventura/rover crew have a blast and do the lead cores (only coasts $120) and scouting is grate fore any one who loves the out doors (thanks to scouting I got in to climbing, abseiling, kayaking, hiking ect.)

Not knocking it, I learned to climb with the Scout Association (although first couple of climbing trips were with others). They had the foresight to run a multiday trip to Arapiles back in '77, hiring the likes of Quentin Chester and Col Reece to escort several dozen of us around the place.
