Hey everyone,
Hope you all had happy holidays. We've been busy and here are some things I'm sure some of you will be interested in.

- Firstly, today we posted a tribute to John Ewbank. Please share this around so it gets seen.
http://www.onsight.com.au/2014/01/john-ewbank/

- Recently we interviewed Angie Scarth-Johnson, the 9-year-old crusher from Canberra and now living in the Blue Mtns, who recently sent her first 31 packing. I thought this was pretty insightful:
http://www.onsight.com.au/2013/12/angie/

- And I wrote a wrap up of 2013:

Please note what I said about clearing CRUX mag near the end of that last link, I don't want people saying they weren't warned.

Have a great 2014 everyone!

Also, I know this has been mentioned elsewhere, but be sure to be up to date on Blue Mtns access to Freezer, Cosmic and Logan Brae -->

Gosh, my memories of Elphinstone were the rainforest coachwood trees lopped down and the huge swathes of hanging vegetation torn away to make for swampy starts tiptoeing through deep black mud where the hillside is already falling away and all the ferns are crushed. Must be just a hater.....

Yeah that sounds about right, and don't forget the crack-bolting episode ....
Maybe not a hater, but rather a 'lover of finer things' .....

Dear Mr Onsight, hi Simon - in another thread about using a helmet for protection, I mentioned a photo from your montage of 20 years of photography that came with the 2014 Calendar - third from the top left corner - of a fellow in a chimney jamming two fists either-side of his helmet.

As the copyright holder, would you be willing to share said photo & providing some info on this interesting technique?

Cheers.

Marty

Dear Marty,
Thanks for asking. The double-fist-and-head-stack-jam? Sure thing:

It's not a very intuitive technique, but since I've learned it I've been amazed at the places it has come in handy. You can even use it on slabs! The trick is to squeeze your fists really hard - and use a solid old helmet. Just practice it gym and you'll pick it up in no time. Hope this helps.
