I'd place two and equalize them, just to be sure.

if the crack is big enough to fit a helmet in you shouldn't be worried about falling as you can always jam another body part in if you're not feeling secure

Like ya head??
This reminds me of one of the photos on Simon Carter's "20th Years of Onsight" collection - there's an awesome photo of a climber in a chimney fist-helmet-fist jamming! (third photo)
What is that about? It looks unreal- is it a required move to finisht the crux?

It's the third one along from the top - hard to see in the online... as i have no info on the climb, it's hard to search... and "Fist head Fist" in Google just goes the wrong way.....

before you know it, people will be carrying a rack of different size and brand helmets for different cracks.
not sure anyone would have one of those new petzl scirroco jobs though....

Hmm.
If the runner was looped through two surfaces of the helmet (eg, front and back, rather than like only the back?, in the pic provided), ... and also provided the helmet is of the tough plastic type instead of the equivalent of a polystyrene bicycle helmet, ... then I imagine it would be good for a short fall, and I'd be prepared to trust it for same as such.
