The Arapiles guidebook was due to be released this week but unfortunately it will be delayed for a couple of weeks due to a hiccup at the printers. The covers were all printed, folded and ready to be fixed to the rest of the book, but were discovered to be slightly undersized to wrap properly around the book. Therefore the cover needs to be resized and then printed all again.
Therefore it will be approximately another fortnight before the guidebook is available.
There were vague plans for a soiree in Natimuk this Friday to celebrate the guide's arrival, but they have obviously been put on hold. I'll put a notice on Chockstone if we do decide to have any sort of book launch.

Yes, you can order the book for $50 (as opposed to RRP of $60) up until Sunday, 10th August from Open Spaces Publishing at www.osp.com.au
If we have a launch, you will be able to buy it at that price too.

As it stands, it will already be the most expensive toilet paper that you have ever used Eduardo.

Why does the website say the pre-order is only open until August 3rd?

That was going to be the date before the latest delay at the printers. If you look further into the website, you will see the date of August 10th. Glenn must have missed making a correction on the opening page.

Either that, or Katherine, who makes changes to the website on Glenn's behalf wasn't in this week, and the date will be changed when she gets back to work next Wednesday.
You can place pre-orders for the book through the website now and it will be sent out to you as soon as they arrive back from the printers.

Just for the record I didn't technically miss correcting the opening page. That's part of the site that I have no control over. Katherine is the Dreamweaver genius and she's banned me from going anywhere near it. ('touch it and you WILL die a horrible death') And if you are wondering why she doesn't just fix the problem...she's at home sick in bed. There is a red cross painted on her door and a guy out the front shouting 'throw out your dead'. I'm not going anywhere near her. She probably got sick from all the stress over finishing the Arapiles guide. I don't blame her. Suicide was beginning to look like a holiday.
The reason the Araps guide is delayed (again) is that the printer stuffed up the cover dimensions by not taking into consideration just how thick the glues and stitching on the spine would be. Unlike some all-singing all-dancing guides this one is stitch bound. If we had it burst bound (cheaper, nastier and quicker), yes it would be out by now but it wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes. We figure that if you are paying almost $60 for a guide you don't want to be chasing loose pages around the foot of Castle Crag. And you want to be able to still flick through it in your old age when all you have is your memories. If you no longer have your memories then at least you'll be able to wonder where the hell this remarkably intact rockclimbing guide came from.
The Arapiles Selected Climbs guide will be out in about two weeks. If you ordered the book off the Open Spaces web site (at the special cheap pre-release price) then I apologise for the delay. It will be worth the wait. If it isn't....then you know where Simey lives. If you don't... I'll gladly pass on his address to you. And he will be there for a while. I can't see him using his proceeds to retire to the French Riviera any time soon.
The price on the Open Spaces site (osp.com.au) will remain at $49.95 until Sunday 10 August. After that it will be at it's RRP of $59.95.

Hahaha team effort until something goes wrong... then its simey's fault, flawless plan!

forgive me for my ignorance if i am wrong, but if i buy the book over the internet now for $49.95 plus the $10 postage that your website quotes, i end up paying $59.95 for it anyway? but if i wait for a couple of weeks i can walk in to my local shop and buy it for the same price, minus what ever discount i can get from them

Brendan it's not only open spaces that are taking pre-release orders.
It may be hard pressed to find a spare copy in a shop during release week.
Where ever you want to walk in and buy it I would recommend pre-ordering your copy too.

And cheaper if you order other books as well I'd imagine (except Grampians Selected Climbs which according to the website weighs 400kg).
