Have just been playing around with these during a 10 day trad trip to Nth Wales on a variety of rock types....rhyolite, dolerite, quartzite & slate.

First impressions are rather good....esp after having owned a pair of pinks then ditched those because of the rubbish heel.

All round fit is definitely better on the new model and the heel is much improved (only a tiny bit of dead space but hey). Performance at the front doesn't quite seem to be as good as the pinks....i felt the edges rolling a little bit unexpectedly in places and overall dexterity didn't seem as good as before....although this might ease with a bit of wear. I'm happy with the durability and stickiness of the Onyx rubber after using Galileos as my mileage shoe for 12 months although it's hard to tell after 10 days wear is fairly negligable.

I was pretty happy standing on small edges for a long time eg while placing gear so they seem to fit the bill quite nicely as an all day hard trad shoe. For single pitch sport i'll stick to something more sensitive eg barracudas. Sizing wise i'm a little surprised - i've always taken a 42.5 for all sorts of 5.10's (ascents, velcroes, galileos, pinks) as for the Verdes i'm a size 41.5 so looks like you would need to drop a size. Not sure about retail prices in Oz but they are 75 over 'ere or a cool $180.

Awesome report, thanks for the info much appreciated =)

I too have dropped a full size in the velcroes from 43 (old style) to 42 (new oynx)
