I built this a few years back when we started having kids and I realized I didn't so much time to get out anymore (well that was my excuse anyway)

3 panels and a bit at 40 degrees for the main wall. A vertical wall for little kids. A 20 degree wall with 7 rows of large and medium campus rungs and some more kids climbing.
Kids love it and play out there everyday. Its been great for training and fun for setting climbs. For anyone building a wall, I think 3 panels at 40degrees and a hangboard is the perfect setup for home training. Mines built in the carport between my house and garage so its under cover and made to last. The hardest part was I had to raise the carport roof higher to fit the wall in which was a bit of work.

I used 17mm formply which is good because its weatherproof, but the best thing is blackboard chalk works well on it. You can then mark up all your problems, and its easily wipes off. Plus kids can go crazy drawing whatever they want.

Dave Macleod is building a woody at the moment. Here's one of his updates for day 3 of the build:

That's not a woody. That's a small gym!

would have gone for higher density on the T-nuts if it was mine - also interesting that he put up what appears to be straight vertical on the back wall, otherwise blerry nice.

Post edit: a few months later noticed it was Dave Macleod I was dissing for not putting enough T nuts on his wall. What would he know about bouldering and training? oops

Hi all,

I have an extension being built on the back of my house, and will add a woody on the driveway side.
The wall is a ~7m high (2 level) timber stud wall with weatherboard cladding.

Interested in how people have a attached panels to the outside of weatherboard houses?

It'll mostly be a standard ~3m high training wall but I might add a few high panels for kids toproping up to the second floor.

I was thinking of just bolting an additional external timber frame with Marine ply directly to the studs thorough the weatherboards (I assume I need to keep the weatherboards for waterproofing rather than just find a way to fix the ply directly to the internal std wall.
Any tips appreciated.

Cheers,
Tony
