Ordered the lot through these guys, cheaper prices per piece. Will let you know if they stuff anything up.

Big nasty monster on the roof that looks like a huge jug but spits off most who dare

Howdy, I am able to build woodies and also paint to look like the rock of choice. I have built several few years back then got to busy working in construction so now I am back into climbing and can build what ever you want (pending budget:)

If you've got a roof section already then there's probably not much point having a 60 degree section. They'd train the same thing. I'd make it 45 degrees and use the roof to train for thuggy climbs.

Mines 55 degrees and it works for the HIT system but most other holds don't suit it for me.

This is less of a woody and more of a small cave in our humble climbing gym at my old high school. Its only just been built after 4 years of negotiating (and pleading) with the principle. It was designed by my wife many years ago and needless to say she is stoked to finally see her design built and ready for some abuse.

The initial design.

The cave in relation to the rest of the gym. The gym also has two overhangs at 30 and 45 degrees just out of picture on the right.

The cave.

The first problem is set!

Now we're just waiting on some matting and some spare time to get into it!

I used 12mm and it's been fine, but I'd go a little thicker if I did it again

Excess flexing of panels is a sign of a half-cut woody. There's real woody cred in having some big unit jumping all over your wall, and the whole thing stays rock steady!

Just a general feeling of insecurity, so I added more bracing studs. Mine weren't marine grade though

I was wondering where he found those giant 2.5m tall garbage bins?.............cause for a second I thought they were normal size garbage bins, and he'd built a little hobbit cave which provides 3 move problems for midgets. But surely no one who hangs out on chocky would be that stupid?

It is a high school climbing gym.
I reckon Sabu and Steph did well to get past the bureaucratic red tape first base, ... so give them some cred ODH!

I can't see why you would need marine grade. I used 17mm, think it was C/D. More important is the way it is braced. Phil Box told me not to over engineer it and that was the best advice I got - typically hobbyists build too heavy. I framed in 100 X 50 hardwood because I had a lot lying around. Next time I would use 75X35 pine on edge with no worries. If you want to see it built and you're in outer eastern Melb. PM me and you can see it built. I also have a device for holding the drill square that sort of works like a plunge router so that you can drill all your sheets at once and keep the holes perpendicular - which is important for the T nuts. If you get to the construction stage, your welcome to loan it too.

You're not taking into account the fact that from where the garbage bins are there is a 1.75m step down to the floor of the cave.

BTW in your woodie can you climb from the start of a boulder problem all the way through a roof, overhang and onto a 10m face? No? I didn't think so..! :P
