I guess so. eGuides with similar functionality (though inferior in my completely unbiased opinion) for Red River Gorge and Joshua Tree in the US are both $31.99

I think the price is fine since you are really paying for all the work that went into the guide book as well as the app itself. Also the market for this app is pretty small for the amount of work that probably went into it.

I have tried to avoid converting any measely money we might make out of this into an hourly rate! If we sell 1000 copies maybe we'll make a couple of bucks an hour each.

Ouch! ;-)
During the latter part of my working life I interacted with a PC (running the Windows OS) but upon retirement I moved to an Apple device to have the mental challenge of learning a new system.
After going over to "The Dark Side", I've found there is no way, or reason, to go back. The tactile nature of a touch screen device suits me and to date I believe Apple do this best. However, the 'Open Source' concept may attract me at some future time.

Nice work boys. Still spins me out having the Araps guidebook available on an iphone.
By the way, I fully recommend those rubberized Otterboxes if you own an iphone. I managed to drop mine from the top of Infinity at Frog Buttress and it bounced 40m down the cliff and landed out in the bush where I couldn't even find it. I thought it would be destroyed for sure. Someone then rang the number and heard it ringing. It was still working fine and the screen wasn't smashed. I couldn't believe it.

I've dropped my iphone underwater for several minutes and after a day of drying out it worked fine. They are surprisingly robust. They are not bird proof however. I hope that damn Tasmanian currawong is still enjoying my iPhone 3Gs....

Brilliant effort! As soon as I can get to a WiFi hotspot I'll download it. Quite reasonably priced for what you've achieved. The only thing missing is sound a la the Morecomb bird App: maybe Screams of Plummeting Climbers on Selected Routes in the first update?

Thanks Doug,
Perhaps the sounds of angry bees when you select Collision Course?

That would be a good one! And maybe "To bee or not to bee, that is the question" could do double duty there and on "The Bard".

Bought this last night. Effing fantastic.
Any plans to release for iPad too? (obviously wouldn't take an iPad climbing, but would sure spend a whole lot of time drooling over lines on my coffee table).

Thanks Mr Organ Pipe,
Focus was on the iPhone / iPod initially as this is what you'd use in the field, but I think that we will do a proper native iPad port sometime in the future for coffee table use. Can't give you any definite time frames though.

I already have the paper guide, so an extra whammy is not needed.
$15 yep, $30 nup.

I can appreciate that if you've already got a paper guide (as a lot of people will), then the price may seem high. Unfortunately, due to the way that the Apple store works, there's not way of providing discounting for some users and not others.
We still think that the price is reasonable given the additional functionality that the app provides, but in the end, that's up to the users to decide.
cheers

I'm still waiting for a chance to get to a WiFi hotspot so I can download the App but will definitely do so. Apart from being great fun in your pocket when you're waiting to go in to see the dentist or at a party with climbing mates, I can see just taking the phone at times, e.g. Walking to the Far Northern Group.
I still reckon, from what I've seen of it, the App represents excellent value. Will we be able to print from it? If so, another great bonus.

Doug,
No ability to print directly from the app at the moment, can't say I'd ever even thought of that functionality. The app is definitely smaller and lighter than a guidebook though.
Did you perchance climb at the edge in Hobart when it used to be open? I lived in the Ho for a couple of years around 2008 - 2009 and reckon I might have met you down there.
cheers
