Toes sticking out is only halfway there!

You know you are super hardcore, poor student climber when you wear shoes on opposite feet as the outside edge still has an edge on their fifth resole!! (a little harder to do with the now common asymmetrical shoes)

Reminds me of seeing my partner's left little toe poking out the side of his Madrocks as we rapped into Hard Rain. By the time he seconded the (left footjam intensive) first pitch the exposed toe was oozing liberal amounts of blood. But that was nothing compared to what the hideously abrasive fourth pitch crack did to the pre-tenderized toe... which I generously allowed him to lead, of course.

Dot Butler (and plenty of Papua New Guinea nationals I know of), would regard this as amusing since they are masters of bare foot climbing.
I still shake my head in wonder when I see them climb the places they did/do in this fashion.

If you win the states, who knows, you might score some boots of your own. i got a pair when i won at the cliffhanger, still havent worn them, but that's because i found a pair of 5.10 UFO's a while back. i put notices up at the araps notice board and in phils shop, this was easily a few years back, but no one claimed them. the funny thing was they were my right size and now i just love them. they're my precccioussss.

lol na i don't really have a chance of winning the states (against Farrell, and various other awesome climbers)
u won shoes from cliffhanger (inter schools)??? i won this year and got a keyring, chalk and a water bottle!!! then i got another water bottle and MORE chalk because my team won!!!
these madrocks are my precccioussss i don't want to part with or the money for new ones, until they fall off my feet i'll still wear them!!! I can easily climb a full day in them and still be able to walk at the end!!!

*sigh* i need new shoes, i have temporally repaired the gaping holes with duct tape, it's not too bad, does the job (of keeping my toe INSIDE the shoe!) but i really need new ones.
I think i'll get the Flashes and now this poses the question: is there any other place where i can try on and buy madrock shoes other than cliffhanger??? (i understand the possibility of advertising as a result of this post, go right ahead, please i need an answer, hehe!!) but yea i really don't want to go all the way to cliffhanger if there is a possiblity of getting them closer by.
cheers

Guy at my local gym has Locos and they have a hole on rand at toe area after not much use ... and I have heard that particular equipment stores are distancing themselves from them....

My 2005 Madrock Sharks developed a hole in right upper. I bought these shoes in Hong Kong but Peter at Madrock Australia did all he could to help me out. Most people are unaware that the majority of climbing shoes only have a 30 day warranty. This is understandable given some of the treatment climbing shoes get. The tear in mine was not in an area climbing shoes usually wear and inspection by Madrock deemed the tear to be a result of a flaw in the leather. Peter sent my shoes to Big John who repaired the shoe with a leather patch(and did a great job), then sent them back to me quickly.

So i got a pair of shoes that were purchased overseas, that had no receipt and were out of their warranty period, repaired for free and returned inside two weeks. Thats not bad service for a $140 pair of shoes.

Madrocks are value for money shoes. There arent the best quality shoes in the world but they arent the anywhere near as expensive as most other brands and they perform very well. The rubber is sticky and it lasts as well as many other 'high price' brands.

A lot of the wear in climbing shoes comes from abuse and less than ideal storage. Leaving them in the back of your car on a hot day or wet and sweaty in the bottom of your pack isnt going to do your shoes any favours. I always air my shoes when I get home from a day at the crag. As a result my last pair of Madrock Flashes lasted around 60 days (before they had a resole) and my Madrock Maniacs have see around 40 sessions use indoors. My Anasazi Velcros have seen around 30 days use on moderate-hard routes look no better or worse than the Flashes did ater the same amount of use.

I love my Anasazis but for training, warming up and moderate routes I use and will continue to use Madrocks.

Shoe wear also comes down to footwork - an aspect of climbing that nearly all of us could improve on.
