Not quite the Saharah yet if we dont get more than 3 drops of rain this year it'll start resembling it...

Re: The scary spiders ahhhh....Don't say that. What the hell is a drop bear?

I've been reading up about snakes and as long as you don't bother them they'll leave you alone (-don't wreck my delusion if this isn't the case) I can cope with the spiders I think -as long as they don't bite me or crawl on me or find their way intp my car while I'm on the go... Who am I kidding -I'm terrified.

Cool are you a more friendly bunch than people in the UK -as I would never be able to just turn up at a crag in the UK and climb with strangers - the British are a funny bunch -takes most of them ages to make friends.

I'll hold you to that one foreverabumbly. See you there. x

I don't know what I'm doing with accomodation but I'll be upset if I'm in a caravan. I get accomodation provided for the first 3months - they were asking me the other day whether I want my own house or to share a unit -not sure what they meant by unit -but I assumed it was a flat or apartment. I'm sharing btw.

I can't even imagine 45+ degrees - I think I'm gonna have so many new experiences - it sounds cool (in a hot kinda way) I think I can cope with Robinvale for 2years (optimism order of the day) Is Robinvale classed as the outback?

Lovely sunny days can't wait -we had hailstones while I was out climbing today looking forward to climbing in a tee shirt and not thermal, top three jumpers and a waterproof. Not looking forward to carrying all that extra water though...

Sarah x (and kisses are nice I like friendly forums -had a quick look at the narky thread -there was a lot only scanned -I agree people should check their posts... and even if you are joking to others it may not come across I find lol {as much as I hate using it} helps on these occasions)

Where its hot its also cold. You're arriving mid winter. Cripsy cold morning starts, but clear skies and a warming sun. A month or two and it will be spring, wildflowers in the little desert and don't miss the wattle blooms at summer day valley (north grampians).

>Is Robinvale classed as the outback?

Keep going west. Not too far away though.

how cold you talking? I'm sure it'll be warmer than here where it's just cold wet and drizzly most of the time.

What's a wattle?

and on a technical note -how do you qoute on this site? I just get the whole message.

Crispy Cold Mornings : Balmy 3 or 4 the last couple of nights but -1, -2 common in autumn and spring with occasional excursions to -5.
During summer, weeks of 30+ are common. Usually a couple of weeks of 35+. We had two weeks this year of 40+. My niece's fiance had just come out from Ulster and almost died. His family had thought we were having hime on about the temps it would get to. He finds the cold, dry mornings very pleasant - gets by in a T shirt while we are shivering in winter clothes..

YES! Down jacket will be your friend at the crag.

Don't underestimate the cold - or the heat! It snows with some degree of regularity over the winter months in some parts of the Grampians (snow melts within a day or so though).

The nati locals can tell you which month they come out in the northern grampians, different species bloom from august to november.

If it's below 0 at robinvale or Arapiles then it will almost certainly be windless. It only gets that cold in clear weather.

Some on the eastern seaboard think anything west of the sandstone curtain is outback.
In the case of Robinvale, those at Mildura would have a different opinion.

... Picking up on the 'keep going' angle ... ~> If you get a flat tyre or bogged off road (can be parked beside the tar in this case if it rains!), you may think you are indeed in the outback. Normal travel in that part of Australia requires carrying sensible spares (ie a functional spare tyre and tools to change it, water if weather is hot, etc).

On the plus side, Robinvale should have the best Vietnamese food outside Melbourne.
