People to climb with in Sydney on weekends

I'm looking for some nice people to climb with in Sydney on the weekends.
I'm finding it relatively hard to find outdoor climbers where I'm climbing (Climb Fit... they all seem a bit snobbish...), and I'm relatively new to climbing, which probably doesn't help.

I don't necessarily want to drop in on people already climbing at crags and just scam/weezel a belay or two, and would jkust like to meet a nice bunch of normal people to climb with regularly on weekends.

I'll be in Syds this weekend - Manly area - let me know if you want to climb Sunday morning in that area. I'll be staying right near a classic bouldering area that is worth checking out!!! Then again, there's always Lindfield...

what area you in?
got a smal crew of us out in the hills that boulder/train during the week if you're interested, full range of abilities (from me at the bottom, ha) and doesnt matter how hard you crank as long as you have fun

In fact, while I was at School, I climbed an old Mikl Law death route that followed an arete of a beautifully carved (but chossy - hmm, maybe there's a common theme here) sandstone wall on the outside of the Big School building (you Grammar boys know where I'm talking about) when I came across an old alcove with an old school exercise book containing the following poem (I could just make out the name Paterson on the front cover):

I had written him a letter which I had, for want of better
Knowledge, sent to where I met him down the Lachlan years ago;
He was climbing when I knew him, so I sent the letter to him,
Just on spec, addressed as follows, "Clancy, of The Overflow."

And an answer came directed in a writing unexpected
(And I think the same was written with a thumb-nail dipped in chalk);
'Twas his climbing mate who wrote it, and verbatim I will quote it:
"Clancy's gone to Queensland climbing, and we don't know where he walk."

In my wild erratic fancy, visions come to me of Clancy
Gone a-climbing "to the Frog" where the Northern climbers go;
As the ropes are slowly stringing, Clancy climbs behind them singing,
For the climber's life has pleasures that the townsfolk never know.

And the crags have friends to meet him, and their kindly voices greet him
In the murmur of the breezes and the river on its bars,
And he sees the vision splendid of the sunlit plain extended,
And at night the wondrous glory of the everlasting stars.

I am sitting in my dingy little office, where a stingy
Ray of sunlight struggles feebly down between the houses tall,
And the foetid air and gritty of the dusty, dirty city,
Through the open window floating, spreads it foulness over all.

And in place of seconds prattle, I can hear their racks a-rattle
Of the tramways and the buses making hurry down the street;
And the language uninviting of the gutter children fighting
Comes fitfully and faintly through the ceaseless tramp of feet.

And the hurrying people daunt me,and their pallid faces haunt me
As they shoulder one another in their rush and nervous haste,
With their eager eyes and greedy, and their stunted forms and weedy,
For townsfolk have no time to grow, they have no time to waste.

And I somehow rather fancy that I'd like to change with Clancy,
Like to take a turn at climbing where the seasons come and go,
While he faced the round eternal of the cash-book and the journal
But I doubt he's suit the office, Clancy, of The Overflow.

Yeah, we were all too busy chasing girls - we left rugby for all the boys that liked getting neked in the showers with each other :-)

Hey, plenty of chicks, it's just that they didn't climb. Ahh, Roseville Ladies College girls.... (and just up the road from Lindfield Rocks).

Mate if you fancy a climb let me know. My usual climbing partner is out for the next 6 weeks. Weekends are a bit hard to come by, but I can usually sneak away during the week.

I have an idea that Sydney Grammar was the 'training ground' of other respectable climbers such as
Giles Bradbury, Kim Carrigan and John Croker as well as Mikl.

Adrian Cooper has a lot to answer for! But I doubt he had any influence on Malcolm Turnbull.

Im in Ryde, and am about 20 miuntes from Lindfield, 20 minutes from The Balkans, 30 minutes from Berowra and about 3 hours by train from Blue Mountains.

If you're able to do ANY weekend at all, and woudn't mind someone tagging along, I'd be keen to hear from you. I usually finish work a bit before 5pm, so unless you were ken to get out in the arvo's, I think I'm unfortunately restricted to the weekends...

Yep, Carrigan too. Didn't know about the other guys though. Ace Cooper inspired a lot of guys, though (in my humble opinion only) he sucked at being a maths teacher (had him for three years in a row). I think the teaching just filled in the time between adventures.

I should mention Mike Myers there aswell (for those of you too young to know him, lots of his pics in the Point Perp and Sydney Bouldering guide. Also a bit of a rave in the Syds Bouldering guide, though it's a bit misleading as it states him as being a 'bouldering only' climber).
