Yep, that's right, due to popular demand the next Buffalo learn/increase aid-climbing skills weekend, is set for Sat 23rd-Sun 24th of Nov 2013.
(Arrive Fri night to get the full Saturday in...).

Previous ones have proven popular, and there are some trip reports from them floating about Chockstone somewhere...

All are welcome to this informal affair of those with aiding experience sharing knowledge, enthusiasm, and their specialised aid-equipment with those who would like to see what it is all about, or improve their existing skills.

No cost involved, though if you manage to lose or break someone else's gear, they would no doubt appreciate a replacement!

Previous participants have found partners for their future adventures on these weekends, and some have gone on to do great climbs like Ozymandias, with those new partners and new skills.
It wouldn't surprise me at all, if previous participants rock up for another gathering, as my understanding is that they enjoyed the earlier ones that much.

~> Register your interest on this thread, and let's make it happen!

Depending on the mix of skills that attend we can have an agenda to match, but it might take some feedback on this thread to fine tune it along the way...

I'll be there; perhaps with a small babe in a haul bag to send up the most marginal pitches.

Rod, I presume this is at leastly partly at the prompting of Brendan? With whom I was discussing the possibility of such but a week ago.

A small part*, as it has been on my backburner of things to do again for a while now, but other commitments seem to be clearing enough to finally commit to a date.

*Brendan is not the only one who has asked me about the next upcoming event behind the scenes. If all that interest translates into being able to follow through, then I expect this event to have greater numbers attend than the previous ones, even though the date may not suit some.

Will the Laphroaig still fit in the bag?

Yes.

Though, Rod, I don't promise I won't try and introduce you to Springbank. It's my birthday, and that's my favourite. I do promise you will enjoy it.

On another note, I want some route suggestions. General criteria: 1 to 3 Pitches in length; Grade ~m5/m6. Is there much in that grade range that isn't on the North Wall? Or said differently; harder than Faust & Elizabeth, but less difficult/scary than your Ethical Drum, and doable in a day (long days OK).

This is the Longrow CV you mentioned before?

I will get back to you after giving it more thought for non nth-wall routes, though my initial thinking is the north wall stuff near Pulpit Rock; being Queen Elizabeth through to Defender Of The Faith area.

As a side note, the harder the grade, the more I find that they gobble time.

The Longrow is a Springbank side label, same people, same region, slightly different character, both supra-excellent. I'll be packing one or the other, depending on what I find at the bottle-o in the weeks prior. My Longrow CV is recently emptied. Perhaps as of last night.

Good call guys – I'm definitely keen :)

Brendan – the knee won't stop the fun! Bring the ledge, tie yourself in and we'll flag you up the north wall if we have to!

I'm in. Looking forward to it.

Anyone interested in staying on for the Monday to team up and do a few pitches of something easy - let me know. Would be happy to go out tradding before hand in the next few months. I'm in the outer eastern suburbs - so Catherdral is my 'home' crag.

My partner and I will likely stick around for a few days beyond the weekend.

Given the number of PM enquiries I have had behind the scenes, at present there could easily be in excess of 20 attendees for the upcoming weekend, which includes a mix of gender, as well as experience, from aid novice through to those who are proficient in advanced aid techniques such as roped-solo.

Based on previous weekends regarding the distances some people travel* to attend, there may well be a contingent who stay on a bit longer to consolidate skills, etc, in order to capitalise on the effort involved in attending.

There is no formal agenda; rather it is a gathering of like minded individuals to meet others of similar interest and advance their skill sets with them, with some guidance by those who are happy to share their experience.

Closer to the event I will seek a bit of feedback as to the make up of the attendee-group (novice/intermediate/advanced), with a mind towards making sure enough equipment is available, and appropriate guidance ratios are maintained, so that everyone gets to achieve what they expect out of the weekend.

*Regarding travel. ~> Use this thread to also line up vehicle sharing if required, and maybe nominate the city/State you are starting out from so people can PM you about it, if you are willing.
