Climbing guides in Arapiles?

Seems they are happy to part with their coin for a guide. The guides no doubt are happy to have a client. What is the problem?

Isn't it obvious?

I'm with you hipdos.

Some interstate climbers what to get the most from their experience at Araps in the limited time available and ask about guiding services. This seems a reasonable place to enquire since it is Chockstone 'Climbing in Victoria Australia'!

By hiring a guide it puts a few dollars into the local economy and allows some Nati local a few hours/days work so they can continue to live with Araps at their doorstep.

Sounds like a win win situation to me...

Hey Perthfun, hope you guys have had some luck. I totally support the idea of hiring a guide if you only have limited time and you can afford it. A good guide will ensure you get a stack of great climbing done. I would throw my hat into the ring for the job, but I'm currently OS until the end of the month. Hopefully you will get a call-back from those people you have already tried contacting.

Ya cuz its not like he would ring em about his drug and drinking addictions eh? You are just another damn dealer, sucking blood mate. No one ever has real problems as long as you are having fun. This guy could drink himself to death and youd be at his funeral offering everyone a nip of whisky I reckon.

Shortman/IdratherbeclimbingM9: stop sucking up to this moron!

You were right what you said first time shortman, widewetandslippery should pull his damn head in and stop mouthing off on a forum at keen climbers. If it was a bushwalker i'd say let fly but dont piss on your own kind or they will probably shit on you later.

Totally got your back on this, but I reckon you aint getting any respect cause your name is a bit of a chick name mate, perhaps change it. You could be 'longlubedandrigid' in honour of your new besty

?
I don't think anyone is sucking up here.
Shortman admonished ww&s, and I thought ODH's post was funny.
OK, my humour is bent, but that may have come about from hanging around Chocky too long, and I acknowledge you are right about boundaries/appropriateness.
~> It is all in the presentation is it not(?) ... and the internet is such a clear medium for always getting things straight!

>This guy could drink himself to death and youd be at his funeral offering everyone a nip of whisky I reckon.

That's pretty funny too!
(... and ww&s would probably think it appropriate!! Heh, heh, heh).

To the original poster; You are going about it the right way (amongst other 'right ways'), and good luck with finding a guide. You will love Arapiles either way.

PS: I hope you don't find this encounter with colourful Chocky personalities off-putting re continued use of Chockstone; in fact this thread is rather balanced already, compared to some others now etched in etherstone!

Hi guys + girls,

Thanks for the suggestions some more useful than others but mostly all fairly amusing.

Pros and cons aside of taking a guide does anyone actually know any or can point us in the right direction. We have emailed folks of the following websites with no joy. http://www.arapiles.com.au/ and http://www.climbco.com.au/

Would be great to hear if you do.

In anticipation of the colourful replies we do own a guide book and we have chosen a guide to get met out of trip and appreciate it isn't the way everyone would do it but hey different strokes for different folks!

These guys were awesome way back when I first got into climbing. I used them to tee up my first ever outdoor climb (Marmots Mall on Dec Crag at Araps, ahhh the memories) and I think they're still going strong so maybe try them

You can hire me. There's a couple of people who know Araps better than me, but they're both busy.

Hey, I'd much rather if Wide didn't drink himself to death. But abusing strangers on Chocky is a completely separate issue. If the booze is to blame for Wide being an arsehole, what's my excuse?
