Font for a day

Hello Stoners,
I'll be luck enough to be in Paris in January and I'm after some thoughts on going to Font for a day in January as that's about all I'll have time. Hoping you can help me with the following:

1. Best area for a day trip when you have never been?
2. Easy to medium routes.
3. Anywhere one can hire a pad?

Any gyms that are a must visit in Paris? (and London now I think about it)

Thanks.

Hi Phill, must be 10 years since we climbed together. Glad to hear you're still crankin'.

Can't help with France, but my wife Paula raved about The Arch when she was in London a few years back.
regards
Steve

All areas will have enough classics of all difficulties for a day visit.

Biggest driver for which is best will be the weather. Will be bloody cold and quite possibly wet or even under snow! Apremont is a little more exposed so tends to dry quicker. The rock is very fragile when wet so needs to be dry...

Recommendations will also differ depending if you have transport (bicycle, scooter or car) or walking.

Camping la Musardière where I've always stay rent pads but is closed over winter. Not sure otherwise as I've either travelled with a small mat or gone old school just buying a coir doormat from the local hardware store. Many landings are flat and especially if just cruising the easier problems or following a circuit you could manage okay with the later...

L'Elefant near Larchant is one of the more entertaining areas but agree with Dalai, in January it might be a bit parky.
Go into the hardware store in 'Bleau and buy some pof - colophane resin, a cloth tea towel to wrap it in and score up a square of carpet while you're there.
Crash mats are for the young generation (in my day we used to .....)

Didn't see anyone with pof last visit in 2017. Must say I missed the process of preparing the holds with the pof ball...

L'Elefant is a great spot. Not sure if they allow climbing the Elephant itself now due to erosion unfortunately. Some great tall problems!

Nice to hear from you Steve. Crankin' might be an overstatement. Draggin' more like it. As Zorba the Greek said "Wife, kids, mortgage - the full catastrophy". And I'm about to spend half my retirement savings on a family trip to Europe so I might be retiring at "The Pines" in years to come. Relive my youth. What about you? Still climbing?

Thanks for the beta peeps. Much appreciated. Yes, it will be all weather dependent.

Yup, still climbing, at least I will be when it stops raining.
I've put out 2 Grampians guidebooks in the last 4 years in case you haven't seen them. An updated Buffalo guide is looking likely for 2023.
