I am running away from the wild southern easter bunnies next week and getting my passport stamped in Nowra for the first time ever, so I was wondering if I could appease a helpful soul or two on suggested routes to fall off in my grade range of 18 - 22, I have been told Killer Boas is an essential, also Amazon .. (23) is worth the time? Watering holes where I wont get stabbed would be useful also. Cheers

get the guide book? half of Nowra is in that grade range...
Go to Point Perp - it's far more atmospheric - Nowra's a gym.

There are a lot of Nowra crags and it depends on how human tolerant you are to where you go. The grotto is by far the best of the crags as far as shade and missing crowds.
I recomend the Australian Hotel in down town Nowra. The North Nowra Hotel is all a bit soft. And Berry, way gay. What used to be called the Leprechaun at the thompsons point turn off on the highway is another winner. East Nowra rules......
Personally I like to drink at the Bombaderry Hotel. Fridays is Sex Bomb (titties) night.
The Oasis on the main drag is the only place to eat.
There is a good ell fishing spot on Bombaderry Creek (known as eel city) behind the fishermans co-op.
Highly recomend going to point perp. even if you are only travelling with draws as it is the best top roping crag ever.

Also;
- the big gr22 roof at Cheesedale (used to be called Vera's Roof)
-Iceman and/or Snowman at the Grotto, a couple of those things are 21/22/23 (can't remember exactly). Extremely good routes which don't get the attention they deserve.
-The gr20 on the right side of the descent gully at Thommos (either Beavis or Butthead, I think)
-All the routes on Alley Wall (5 routes at 19-22). You need good friction for these ones, wait for a windy day.
-The scoopy 22 at the left hand end of Vine Wall
p.s. one of these is a horrendous sandbag.....but it's Nowra, so that's part of the fun :D

Thanks guys for the low down, I am taking my rack secretly - as my mates are all sport obsessed, I am trying to suggested Point Perp as a definite visit location, wont mention the lack of bolts. Sex Bomb Fridays sound nice.

I think you just named the 5 most stabby pubs in NSW!
Those ones all stop serving beer in glass at nightfall - what does that tell you?
Berry may be 'gay' but there is probably a 50% less chance of getting decapitated by a Nowra houso

pink lemonade light beer shandys are the way forward mate, I know you got a soft spot for them too!
i'm actually a fan of the grotty joints you named, just dont think they fitted the 'non stabby' criteria

I reckon its pretty hard to go past TP, Grotto or PT Perp on your first trip to the area.

Killer Boas isnt a classic, Amazons certainly is.
Point Perp has plenty of good sport climbing in that grade range now - at least 30 routes. Check out thecrag.com to update the current print guide.

Assuming that they last till easter...........probably better to think of them as mixed routes hovering in a transitional state.

I'm also thinking of heading to Nowra this Easter, just for a day to break up the Point Perp goodness. Would Sloth Wall be a good area to spend a day for us lowish grade bumblies? Also is are there any good directions / access descriptions to get there on the web? We'll only be there for a day and I'm not sure any of us have the guidebook.

One of my fav walls at The Grotto is the Gonads Wall (right of depleted Gonad). A fantastic bunch of 18s-23s that are usually not busy and classic. Do them all in a day for a good training session!

Thanks for the 'beta' guys.
Probably more pubs will be ticked than routes, will even drink pink lemonade with the locals if Sex Bombs are included.
