Flinders Lane rap anchor (Araps) |

I was heading over to Ali's on the weekend and asked myself why there wasn't a rap anchor at the end of Skylark Direct that'd take you to the anchor at the top of Skylark/Kestrel, and then to the ground. There's a lot of climbs that finish on Flinders Lane that could use it.

Probably the biggest reason is that noone has thought it necessary. I would agree with this view.
The other one, which rules it out in my book, is that it will turn the belays at foot and top of Kestrel into part of a descent route for other climbs and will make that classic climb less enjoyable.

I agree with Kieran. The rebirth (?) of Skylark has already made the Kestrel anchor a bit of a bottle neck. Having the potential to have ropes pulled from above while climbers are below might make it worse, esp if my memory serves me correclty and there is a bit of loose rock around the start of SD (around the mantle ledge?). Skylark direct is good value.

Because not everyone is as much of a pussy as you are.

Because it takes two minutes to walk through the cave and rap down Ali's?

I'm against a rap station on Flinders Lane as that ledge is clearly big enough to have at least twelve. I find that some times I have to walk or scramble from the top of the route I just finished to find the nearest rap station. It's exactly like the car parking problems in Horsham. Zebedee knows what I'm talking about.
I'm going to write a letter the Wimmera Mail Times complaining of the Council's lack of investment in rap anchors.
So there.

A rap anchor on Flinders Lane would reduce congestion at Alis, which, given that it services upwards of 100 climbs, tends to be a bottleneck. It'd also save your average Tiger Wall climber a lot of time.... let's say you've just finished Yo Yo
- walk along Flinders Lane to the slick bum slide (5 mins)
- down bum slide and through cave and to start of the Ali chains (5 mins)
- wait for everyone else at Alis (? have waited here for more than 15 mins in the past)
- either setup rap and descend, or downclimb Alis (5-10 mins)
- downclimb bottom of Alis and walk back around Fang, Plaque, Bard Buttress, Tiger Wall etc to Yo Yo (10 mins)

You could always use one of the other 3 rap anchors that are within spitting distance of Alis if the traffic is too heavy

If you've got a problem with me then just tell me. Don't take it out on the peeps just trying to use the ironmongery.
Why the fk do you think spitting goozers at peeps while they are trying to abseil is OK. Can't wait till I'm within pissing & shitting distance of your doorstep.

If saving time is your only arguement for putting in a rap station then it doesn't seem right.

I did The Eighth for the first time on Sunday, and there's no way it took half an hour to get back to the packs (15min?). I'll take that over someone not looking and throwing a rope on my head when I'm trying to climb, there's no good reason that I can see to add more two-directional traffic.

Gribble, you astound me. Big strapping lad like you complaining about a little extra walking?
It does not take 10 minutes from Flinders lane through to John's Pinnacle, where you have the choice of 3 rap anchors and a via ferata to get you to the ground.
Your laziness is not a proper justification for adding any bolts anywhere.
Here is your challange: You take your two ropes and a couple of bumblies and rap off the Watchtower, I will walk down. Lets see who gets back to the ground quickest and spends less time in the sun.

Do we seriously have to try and reduce everything and make it more convenient?
Perhaps some little pump packs of hand sanitiser at strategic points on Alis would be good too.

Not sure but apparently his ex wouldn't let him buy bulk packs of toilet paper because she was worried people would see them with a huge pack of bog roll and think "Gee... They must shit a bit".
