Yes, you have to watch them very sun tanned folk!

Yes, that sounds like justice to me! (or child abuse?)

Yep, group thuggery should sort it out. Words are for wimps, fists are for... (jamming??)

Phils suggestion is a little over the top but has some merit. I know of a successful stake out at Thompsons Point. Slowed the thieves down for a while. One point though. f---ing with some random blokes from east Nowra could easily land a little climber in a world of hurt.

If you were driving a stolen car I don't think you would go to a place that has a road block, guards that
record your (stolen) numberplates. That would be utter stupidity.

Before the guards/boom gate thefts were more common. A friend had his car cleaned out while ours remained untouched. Since then apparently thefts were less common, although I have heard the same story about stolen cars/number plates being used. I guess they have worked out that climbing and camping gear is worth a bit?

That's why you don't leave the hexes in the car but you have them with you.

In all seriousness simply the fact that they have been busted puts you in the position of power. They will crap themselves and want to leave ASAP. Take lots of pics and notes for the cops. If they menace you then you in all likelyhood will be able to run faster than them. ;))

I had a pack with an entire rack, a rope, a couple of pairs of shoes and a couple of harnesses in it, pinched from near the top off the ladders at Narrowneck in 1993. Another bag containing our wallets, car keys and lunch was left there.

It was a particularly cold, windy winters day and we had left the packs there, so we could check out what the conditions were like at the base of the cliff.

The only other vehicle in the car park was a big red fire truck, which was gone when we found the pack misssing and sprinted back up to the car. We had been gone from the packs for about 15 minutes.

So, I don't think you should ever presume it's just junkies and teenagers that pinch things.

It wasn't an SES truck, was it?

No, it was the real thing.

If you can find somewhere where I ACTUALLY accused them of stealing my stuff, then I'll be careful.

And if I remember rightly, a few months later, a couple of the public servants in question where accused of ripping someone else off, after attending a fire. One of them may have even been actually sacked or forced to resign over that one.

And bugger that anyway, I drove stright to the fire station and accused them cold of stealing my gear. They said the saw a couple of "youths" in a gold Laser. I asked them why the "youths" didn't pinch our wallets as well. They didn't have an answer to that one.

Sorry - took your post the wrong way.
A bunch of us, after deciding to disband Blue Mountains Climbers Rescue, joined Blue Mountains SES and are working really hard on improving their capability especicially with regard to land search and rope rescue. The goal is to become accredited as a support/secondary agency up here so that climbers stuck under roofs or in bad weather have another option (other than helo - which won't work in either of those scenarios).

I took it as a dig at the SES (ie that the SES isn't the real thing) and am more than happy to retract my comment!

That's OK Richard. It seems I took your post the wrong way too.

I have nothing but respect for the SES.

When I said "no, the real thing" , I was simply trying to say, members of the Katoomba Fire Brigade without saying members of the Katoomba Fire Brigade.

If you know what I mean?
