To me it seems like it is a lack of faith ie. you aren't sure if there actually is a god, that would start you praying in dire circumstances. If you really did believe in an omnipresence you would not have to pray in times of need because HE is always there.

If there is a god and he's supposed to be all powerful, why did he fail in his attempt to wipe out the Nephilites with his flood ? The Nephilites by the way, were a race of giants resulting from angels coming down from heaven and getting it off with good looking babes on earth. I'm not kidding. Read all about it in Genesis.
