I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said "Stop! Don't do it!" "Why shouldn't I?" he said. "Well, there's so much to live for!" "Like what?" "Well... are you religious?" He said yes. I said, "Me too! Are you Christian or Buddhist?" "Christian." "Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant ? "Protestant." "Me too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?" "Baptist" "Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?" "Baptist Church of God!" "Me too! Are you original Baptist Church of God, or are you reformed Baptist Church of God?" "Reformed Baptist Church of God!" "Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915?" He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915!" I said, "Die, heretic scum", and pushed him off. (Emo Philips)

Almost 250 posts and 13,000 views. Strange. How many of the super opinionated non-believers have even read the Gospels? (These are the 4 books in the bible with Jesus' words) It would help with the seeing the difference between Christ and Christians and, religion and relation. You could read everything he had to say in about 3-5hrs. I reckon he is who he says he is....but still would'nt call myself a christian for what it's worth. Power to the choice of individuals, whatever it is u believe.

So how come the so called new profits are chosen by man and not God?

So if I use DMM will it improve my singing voice?

And will Wild Country make me like warm beer?

M75, what confuses me about you is that you are completely not the bible bashing type I would expect of a Mormon, you have humility, humbleness and can both take and give a good joke. This is strange to reconcile against my pre-conceptions of the guys with the shirts and bikes bashing on doors at all hours and generally being a shove it down your throat bunch of pains in the arse. I think your a credit to your religion. I wish all religo's could follow your example and just chill out a bit.

Thanks ambyoek & Shortman, I appreciate your compliments. I learnt during my own time in the white shirt that Bible bashing gets you nowhere, and creates more ill will then good! My beliefs are as important to me as I know others beliefs are to them.

Don't be afraid to call out the young ones (nicely) if they don't act as 'Christian' as you'd expect when they come knocking...

Yeah I spent 26 months in Tokyo Japan. I reckon I had it easier than the missionaries out here in Australia because even when the Japanese people were rude, they were politely rude...

It was a tough, but rewarding time, sharing what I believed in with people I grew to love.... There were a lot of different facets to the work, sharing the good word, working with the elderly and handicapped kids, teaching English, learning Japanese culture and language... All of it was awesome because of the friendships I made, many of which started by me stopping someone in the street. In one particular area my companion and I couldn't actually stop people on the street because we would end up scaring the hell out of them. He was a 6"9' ~130Kg Hawaiian and I was 6"2' 90kg. I was a giant in Japan, elderly people would call me Sumo San (Mr Sumo) though my companion was like Godzilla! The people we stopped would just freak out, especially at night. We gave up trying to stop people on the streets and moved on to different ways of finding interested people.

As far as "hooks", sure, I witnessed a number of people who accepted the gospel into their lives. I'd be happy to share more with you via PM.

Aside from the dodgy snippet I posted a while back, (and Kim Jong-il's classic "I'm so ronery' in Team America) I'm not a fan of Trey Parker and Matt Stone's creations.

Is it any wonder I spend most of my time climbing alone? Now you've gone and spoiled the surprise I'll never find that 'special someone!' :)

Just thought I'd share what someone with a great deal more wisdom than me thinks.

Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.
C. S. Lewis

If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark. Dark would be without meaning.
C. S. Lewis

Chronological Snobbery

Chronological snobbery is a logical fallacy coined between friends C. S. Lewis and Owen Barfield describing the erroneous argument that the thinking, art, or science of an earlier time is inherently inferior when compared to that of the present. Or as Barfield explains it, it is the belief that "intellectually, humanity languished for countless generations in the most childish errors on all sorts of crucial subjects, until it was redeemed by some simple scientific dictum of the last century."[1] The subject came up between them when Barfield had converted to Christianity and was persuading Lewis (an atheist at that time) to join him. One of Lewis's objections was that the religion was simply outdated, and in Surprised by Joy (chapter 13, p. 207-208) he describes how this was fallacious:

“ Barfield never made me an Anthroposophist, but his counterattacks destroyed forever two elements in my own thought. In the first place he made short work of what I have called my "chronological snobbery," the uncritical acceptance of the intellectual climate common to our own age and the assumption that whatever has gone out of date is on that account discredited. You must find why it went out of date. Was it ever refuted (and if so by whom, where, and how conclusively) or did it merely die away as fashions do? If the latter, this tells us nothing about its truth or falsehood. From seeing this, one passes to the realization that our own age is also "a period," and certainly has, like all periods, its own characteristic illusions. They are likeliest to lurk in those widespread assumptions which are so ingrained in the age that no one dares to attack or feels it necessary to defend them. ”

No offence but that is all a load of bull. Work through the arguments.Interrogate them. You'll find them lacking.

Or better still, go climbing.
