I reckon introducing climbing into the olympics prostitutes many aspects of climbing.
Next we will see winter olympics with timed ascents in the Himalaya?

Given some of the other 'sports' currently in the Olympics, I can't see why leashless mixed ice climbing comps isn't in the Winter Olympics.
Some of the moves they pull off on steep terrain is super impressive!

Spitting the Dummy should be in. We'd have a gold medalist from this forum.

There have been a few of them along the way.
Interestingly enough some have drifted back to the Chockie addiction, and also others have clandestinely done the same thing, but under new user id's.

as long as the sport climbers wear outfits like the figure skaters it could be amusing.

I've been looking for an excuse to get out all my colourful lycra tights that I wore climbing back in the 80's ;-)

NO! the world cups are way more impressive anyway than some stupid event that happens once every four years. a league style competition is way tougher than waiting for the other competitors fall over so you can win (snowboard cross, speed skate etc)
keep ice/mixed out of the olympics

No don't even go there. The second "colourful" outfits and climbers are mixed together an
unhealthy result occurs including the aforementioned 80's lycra or even the dreaded
mankini... combine this with international media coverage and mothers around the world
would cry "THINK OF THE CHILDREN"!

Like all those well recognised and well funded badmiton, handball and judo competitors?

I'm sure the Ausport will fund climbers.
I was just talking about it in the shop today with some brits, and they beleive thier goverment will start funding more climbers - apparently the czech gov already does.

Better spent elsewhere some would argue, at least the Canadian variety if you look at the protests

"An International Olympic Committee (IOC) session is set to announce on 3 August that [ sport climbing] will be added to the programme for four years' time."
"Skateboarding, surfing, karate and baseball/softball could also become Olympic sports at next month's meeting."
There you go.
http://m.bbc.com/sport/olympics/36811368
"35 million climbers around the world. The average age is 23 years old, with 40% under 20."
I wonder how that compares to chockstone users?
One more quote from the article:
"Sport climbing involves participants scaling permanent anchors, like bolts, fixed to the rock."

You lot are a mob of negative wankers. The amazing youngsters who will compete at the Olympics have more climbing ability in their little fingers than you bunch of old losers. I can't wait to see it.

In my case I'm friggin aye certain that they will. Doesn't matter though, the reasons I and many others participate in climbing are far removed from the values of competitive sport climbing. Someone who gets excited by semantic debates could tickle themselves silly arguing that what I do isn't even a sport. Fair enough, don't care. It's not that I don't like sport or competition, love bike racing, but that's not what gets me excitited about climbing.
I saw some competition climbing in Chamonix. I presume the climbers were at a pretty high level, cause I don't think many people would stand around and watch numpties climb in that town; and the Austrian national team was in attendance. They were strong, pulling moves onsight I couldn't touch - it was also shit boring, and not the sport I had crossed the equator to participate in.
