My issue with the males using the composting toilet (yes, because it's all about "me") is the fact that everytime i sit in them i gag for as long as i'm in there.
When i guided in tassie the long drop crappers had a tiny little solar panel which drove a fan to suck out the stench.
Given that there appears to be a solar panel on top of the long drops at the moment, can a request be made to attach it to some sort of fan? I'm more than happy to sit on the long drops, for as long as my entire experience isn't filled with gagging. i'm sure it may even encourage others to use them too.

Seriously though, that smell has been around a lot longer than the present issue. A fan
is a nice idea but i doubt the PV guy is gonna be able to get that happening given he's
struggling with the water solutions (or lack of).

I don't understand why they need to close the guys toilet. All they need to do is disconnect the water and put some desert cubes in, and keep one cubicle unlocked for no.2's. It's going to be a lot better than guys finding a tree near by.

Whats wrong with finding a tree? It keeps the local vegetation watered.

Though I think the guys toilets should be open for no.2s.

You should camp near the top right corner of the Pines where the clump of bushes are. Smells like a toilet now.

When i left the pines this morning i noticed the guys toilets were open. Must have been
a very recent thing as they weren't a few days ago!
Also its seems they're still trucking water in and the water from the tank outside the
toilets is fine to drink (Drank it for a day when we ran out and I'm not in hospital yet..!)

strong.

Ok...whats the current water situation at the mount?
I have heard that the water tanks are overflowing and so there is no need to bring/buy extra water. Could someone please confirm this?

Is this like, don't eat yellow snow?

Tannins from the gum leaves colour the water. It's still ok, but if you're worried, bring a filter jug. It's currently pîssing down again.

Since I dont have a filter looks like I will be drinking yellow water. Awesome, last time I was there I had to buy shitloads of water!

Would a socialy conscious stratergy for climbers be to bring water if you can? That way the tank stays full longer moving into summer and will be available longer for water for people who can't bring there own. Its about to get hot and dry.

Its meant to rain for the next few days at least.
If the tank is overflowing,then im drinking it-if its not then i will buy water

I may be a bit radical here, but I reckon using the rain water is a more environmentally conscious (and thus socially concious) strategy. Those tanks didn't run out last year. or the year before. infact, i can't remember when they last ran out. That would be because almost no one uses them because they have a do not drink sign on them. They don't even get used to water trees (although that would be a good idea if anyone is inspired to bucket to the new trees this summer) However, they are a very renewable resource - it doesn't take a lot of rain on that roof area to put a lot of water in the tanks. On the other hand, buying water (the usual strategy) involves the processing and transport of water, the production of plastic and the creation of rubbish. Filling up in Nati or Horsham involves using an also very pressured water source (we have made it over 12% capacity for the 1st time in years this winter). Not to mention Nati water is literally full of crap and Horsham water full of chemicals (more resourses..) and you have to drive to get to them. As long as there is still water in the tanks, I'd use it. Otherwise, it's wasted.

In general, if you're so concerned about the quality of the water, buy a steripen.
