You're stoked to be finished, and I'm stoked at the prospect of going back. Thinking of doing a PhD. Mostly so I can grow my hair long and skive off climbing when the weather's good.

I guess it depends on the field, but I certainly didn't find that skiving off from PhD studies was a possibility at all. You work pretty hard. Also, there has been a push in recent years to cut PhD students off from absolutely all sources of funding beyond 3.5 years. Anyway good luck!

Cheers. I probably won't skive off much, but as I naturally prefer working on such things late at night and early in the morning, there should be plenty of daylight hours for fun stuff.

I got my skive on a lot in the first 2 years. After that the realisation that you actually have to produce something kicks in...

Not really stoked, ~> but I feel good about it anyway.
I went and bouldered (official second time now*) on the weekend.
Went to Black Range and treated it as a bit of adventure-bouldering, ie an onsight look/try new things, at a new area for me.
I decided evanbb likes power/endurance problems and later found out why, ... ~> he has a garage woody set up to practice same at home and consequently he is better at that style than I am, ... however I whipped the young lad on the balance/smear slab stuff.
Heh, heh, heh.
... ~> And for those who follow historical Chocky posts/internet style and are wondering; ... yes we had a minor epic with access route finding to gain the best boulders, but no rope clusters or shonky belay set-ups.
I blame and thank my bouldering partner for all the above!
☺
(*Black Range leaves McFarlands Hill for dead).

Hehehe.
I'm stoked I sandbagged Rod into a day of bouldering, principally designed to shield me from a crushing hangover.
The TR about the guy who got dehydrated leading after a night on the piss has destroyed climbing culture in this country. At the first sign of a hangover now I go bouldering.
And yes. I'm bloody terrible at the balances and smears. I have much to learn.

I was an agreeable accomplice, and although strongly suspecting it didn't rain at Booroomba I relented because I realised I had left my solo belay device at home while hearing your sales pitch for bouldering!, ... ~> though I did have a rain poncho with me in anticipation of doing a wet multipitch!

You see, deep down I knew we should go multipitch (proper) climbing, but the threat of rain + my hangover made me weak.
Post Edit:
We talk a lot about booze here, which doesn't worry me. Apparently though, one of the AA questions for 'Are you an alco' is something like 'does alcohol stop you from doing things you want to do?' Lots of people here would answer yes to that question. Clearly the question is wrong.

Stoked to be leaving work early on a Friday for a weekend of climbing with my brand new
scary thin, double ropes. 7.8mm is enough to get a pucker without getting off the ground.
Very cool.

If you stick with crack climbing you will learn to love jamming. You will even find yourself finding hand jam rests on sport routes!
Im stoked that I had to fight to onsight Liquid Daze yesterday. Made it such a rewarding climb!

What was the route? First proper jam I ever used (and had to) was on a 9 at Piddo.
