The verdict is very good.
No bouldering so it doesn't intrude into the Lactic Factory's market.
Nothing quite as long as the longest routes at Altona and nothing to quite challenge the AME wall.
Not quite as much of a pump fest as Nunawading. More vertical and slabby routes at the City gym, whereas nearly everything at Nuna tops out with an overhang to fit under the roof.
A good variety of angles and grades, plus lots of lead climbing. A lot less stuff for raw beginners than either Altona or Nuna.
Size-wize I feel its not a gym you'd make the only place you climb at but all of them get boring if you don't mix it up a bit.
I think it complements the current gyms and fingers crossed all four can turn a profit.

Nick,
Brodie is not Aaron.
On th note of climbing holds spinning....they spin because the walls are new and there is still a bit of expansion/contraction in the surface material used. Its just like Nuna on a after there has been a change is temp. As to holds breaking........well i think you will find that they are not V12 as we did not put many into the city. I would say there are less than 100 V12 holds in the CBD gym at the moment. It was decided to use what was spare at Nuna first.

Can't see it happening any time soon but another flood light set in the corner of the gym facing the lead pinnacle would be nice. That slightly overhanging side can be a bit too dark

how do you know my names is not Brodie, how do I know you are Fish Boy aka Nick.
Whats in a name any way!!!
There are so many people hiding behind names here and eveywhere that we dont really know who any one is- .
Any one can say they are any one, we are all hiding, most people dont even have thier names in their profile- .
I could be Brodie, I think I am brodie today, tomorrow I could be some one else, I feel like a change- I want to be someone else, dont you ever want to be some one else.
The voices tell me that I can be some one else- dont the voices tell you that you are not Fish Boy or Nick. Dont you hear voices around the fires. You could be any one,are they listening!!!!
Whats in a name I ask,
Brodie or not to be Brodie, that is the question! or waqs that To be or not to be!! Who would know.

Anyone know if any of the other gyms charge $6 to belay????
Was a bit surprised to rock up to the city gym only to belay a friend and have to pay for 2 hours of cold boring-ness.

HAHAHA That is absolutely terrible, common hardrock! What if some poor soul is just escorting a keen climber and has no interest, or a dad is belaying their kid, or someone is injured and wants to be social and belay at the same time, they have to pay 6 BUCKS !!!! ????

You dont have to pay entry but I remember once i was being a belay bunny at the geelong gym and had forgotten my harness, I had to pay to hire their harness... i was a little outraged but moved on when the climber paid for it..

I had my own harness with me and still had to fork out the 6 bucks

So it's official, you have to pay 6 bucks to BELAY gee I'd feel glad after paying for that experience...

As a belayer you need to be covered by their insurance policy. The $6 would be to cover that I imagine.
You are still using their faciity, just maybe not in the most enjoyable fashion!

As neil says its to cover insurance and harness hire. You have always had to pay to belay at Hardrock, well at least for the last 10 years...

There is no charge to belay at the hanger.

I totally understand being covered by insurance, though in my opinion a belay should never have to pay to subsidise their insurance if they are only belaying, it is not a necessity to make them pay, it's the gym's choice (as phil mentioned, CH doesn't charge). And I beleive they chap/chapess that mentioned having to pay had their own harness.
