from what i hear, sue(?) from hardrock is going to own/run it,
also going to be aimed primarily at the corporate sector, ie no bouldering cave because space has been made into meeting room, or something along those lines, should be good to see how it pans out. so i hear anyway. could be totally off.

Hardrock CBD will open in 2006, if you take a drive to the crn of Swanston and Franklin you will see construction of the complex. The climbing gym is only part of the development for the top end of the city. The road is being closed off to stop traffic and encourage people to bike to the city. there will be cafes and retail shops.A development of this size takes time.

If Hardrock was in control of the building, the gym would have been up and running a year ago, however we are not. We go on site in November to construct the walls, of course over Jan, the site will shut down, due to the month builders take off. we hope to have the complex open Feb, but hey, who knows. It WILL be open in time for the commonwealth games.

www.pdgcorp.com.au has pics of the development. The walls pictured in their pics are not what will be going in.

The climbing surface will be the same as Nunawading.

An extra note the the previous

The CBD will have bouldering, but not heaps.

Hardrock is also opening a boulder gym not far from the Mills old site. We finalised the purchase of the building just last week.

Building climbing gyms takes time believe it or not.

We will complete the cbd and then start construction of the boulder gym. The boulder gym will have some climbing, but at this stage far more bouldering. The plans are through council and we are ready to go, but not untill cbd is finished.

To the membership status, memberships will be able to be used at all locations, so will 10 visit cards.

Good to see that it is all coming along, and fingers crossed that there will be no more delays and we can have a new facility. And then a bouldering gym to come after!! We are going to be spoilt for choice....

Just a pondering though Brody, why have you guys bought the bouldering building already? How is it commercially viable to buy a buildiing, and then leave it for over a year? Or even longer if there are more delays in building Verve501?

They have an operation that deals in super high grade designer magnesium carbonate. All of melbourne's
chalk junkies are going there for their fix. A word of warning though, the gear is so pure that if you don't
cut it with some regular chalk, it will suck the moisture right out of your hands leaving you with mummified
bony husks.
