Real Mountaineering insurance

I see alot of threads on climbing insurance. I want to talk about Insurance for technical International Mountaineering for Australians. I have found nothing in the past few weeks.

It looks like ill have to purchase insurance as i land in the US.
Im headed to the Ruth Gorge Alaska.

Aparently there are Australian laws that prohibit US companies supporting us here in Australia. I cannot purchase from them while my feet touch aussie soil.

Has anyone had any experience with this.
eslecially the us would be realy helpfull!

Cheers Dan

Insure4Less has insured me for technical alpinism in Kyrgyzstan, BUT -as we all know by now- Insure4Less don't offer any sort of climbing-related insurance in the US.

I had no problems with 2.5 months of sport/trad/bigwall climbing in the US using Virgin Money Insurance (which did have a section covering mountaineering, though I didn't pay too close attention to it), and -as I've mentioned in previous US Climbing-Insurance-related posts, we DID test after my partner's accident (and probably fairly hefty medical bills). Maybe look into that?

I'm insured with Virgin Money for an upcoming Yosemite trip. Rock climbing is specifically covered under the Adventure Pack extension. They don't specifically mention mountain climbing or alpinism in the PDS, and they do exclude anything not specifically mentioned. I would specifically check with them, and get it in writing before relying on the stock cover.

I have used Insure4Less many times, but the last time I tried they have discontinued their climbing insurance. That was a few years ago, so it may have changed since then.

Good luck.

Insure4less... you need approval if you want to climb above grade 28!?

Having an upper grade ceiling seems counter intuitive. Surely by the time you're climbing 28, I would think you know what you're doing.

Important point to re-iterate: Insure4Less don't insure climbing in America at all.

Apparently the Austrian Alpine Club (UK section) has a new add-on for expedition climbing. I've been insured with them before, but not for a few years, so not tried this new option. It's meant for extended climbing over 6000m, so a few weeks in the Ruth Gorge might come in under their existing policy - just note their existing policy covers medevac but the amount for hospital cover won't last long in the US hospital system.

Of course, rumor has it, Austrian Alpine Club never pays. I assume you've had a look at here

Yes, I posted in there at the time. There's nothing on that page about the AACUK not paying out and I've not heard anything. I have heard of problems with Global Rescue though.
