Yeh I'm with spagguts get a room. I thought the OP didn't like "in jokes between friends that no one else gets"? Or did you mean "in jokes between folk that I don't know"?

If I were ed I would have said "as close as two pairs of testicles slapping".

But then I'm not ed so I won't say anything.

I meant climbing in the literary/thread sense, not actually 'doing it', Heaven forbid ...
And what's the infatuation with testes - it's yous who should "get a room" - and compare ,,,, erm ,,, notes.
I'll be in The Spotti pub if anyone cares for a beer and a fireside chat ...

A little! I certainly never expected to read an apparent suicide note from my big eared mormon friend on chocky.

But then, I did pike on Friday dinner. Sorry about that.

You have arrived too late Andy and I'm afraid you missed the Golden Age of Chocky. But you can still enjoy all those classic threads from the past. Who can forget such classics as Bourge's World? Or Blake's Ozymandias trip report? Or whatever the thread was where I was a total prick to M9? Or Clinton's Tyrolean adventures?

What we need is a star system where Chockstoners can rate their favourite threads so newcomers can work their way through those three-star classics on days when Chockstone is as dull as dog shit.

Surely most of those threads have been butchered to the new generation of chocky anti spam rules; like all the trip reports about actual climbing.

If I ever get off my butt (or on my butt) to write another TR I will make sure it fit's inside a twitter post; once I figure out what twitter is.

I reckon Clinton's Tyrolean adventure is freaking awesome. That thread had everything!

Also, thanks to the many people who've contacted me about my earlier and very gloomy post. The last sentence is a quote from a Doors song, not my bleak outlook on life;)

That M9 fellow probably deserved it.
Heh, heh, heh.

The butchering seems to only have applied to excessive length within a single post, so my expectation is that the threads are still intact, though I haven't been back to check.
I would expect that the language filter applies to them, but most know how to read the new equivalents don't they?

Cicadas tyrolean adventure

... That'll keep you going for a starter.

As an aside, simey's taste in classics may not be others(?), and to support this hypothesis on my part I add that con-text is everything, as many threads from the golden age of Chocky had parallel running (con-textual) tidbits that often embellished the themes running elsewhere on the site. Without them some additional meaning is lost.

Post edit:
I note that the linked ODH's trip report ending that nine page thread has suffered the anti-spam shortening alluded to elsewhere ...

ODH; any chance of adding part/s 2, 3 etc to complete it again?

Yes, that is all pretty true. Some of the classics of yesteryear might not hold up so well with the passage of time, but I am sure this one does...

For a bit of background... Blake was just a weedy, young wannabee when he wrote this and was still finding his feet in the climbing world. He copped a bit of good humoured shit from the likes of me and One Day Hero later in the thread. Shortly after, his mum messaged me to say that she felt like we took things too far and that our sense of humour was not conducive to helping teenagers build confidence. It was a totally reasonable letter, but I pointed out that Blake wasn't being singled out (we wanted to see Blake succeed) but simply that everyone who posted on Chockstone was open game.

As things turned out, Blake's focus moved from big wall aiding to bouldering. He is now a 6'4" monster who pulls V10 or harder.

That's a happy ending Simey and if we dish it out we have to expect to cop it back. 'The p*ss' I mean.

I love the thread where Eduardo inadvertently fessed up to having intimate relations with microwaved haggis on a regular basis.
