Further rumination has led to the recollection that "amenity" is indeed an apt description. The toilet block didn't exist back in those days. Where the current "amenity" sits there were four walls of corrugated iron, no roof, a branch placed diaonally across the far corner, a big black toilet pan and a bottle of Phenyl. The other toilet was to the north of the plantation near the other big pines, these had doors and a roof. If you were camped outside the plantation you hopped the fence and utilised the 'amenity'. So I stand corrected (although some people squatted).
