Bagging Nowra..

Firstly the Big K is the mighty crag that towers above the metropolis of Wollongong, not some shithouse concrete thing in god knows where.

Building a TAFE on the tip was a travesty. I used to sleep there 4 nights a week. Fond memories of bonfires and tree surfing.

At least at Nowra there is bush unlike the land raped Wimmera, a totally man made environment. Yes, Bomaderry Creek is beautiful.

Ever since Trevor gave up, the Nati pub is shit. The Bomaderry Hotel has SexBomb on friday nights.

There was mention of ANZAC Day in Nowra. I went to the dawn service at Bomaderry this year. Chockers.

Nowra forgoes pseudo intellectual route names like Orestes and has Sperm Bitches.

Nati Cafe or Oasis Takeaway, no contest. Apart from the dounut van I cant comment on Berry.

They play footy in Nowra, not gay mexican netball.

Nowras surrounding crags are also some of the best. Hitting distance to Turpentine Road/Tiagara crags, Point Perp, Bungonia, Macquarie Pass, Mt Kiera, bouldering at South Beach Wollongong to name a few.

Rugby seems more gay to me as they spend far more time near each other's bums and seem to actively try to pull the shorts off other players.

Perhaps you didn't mean to use that word?

All football codes are not gay. All that hugging, touching each other on the bottom, then going and having a shower together is not gay.

Unlike Nowra, which is gay.

I live in Sydney, which my most unPC vernacular is even more inappropriate. I should know better.

I will in future use the term mardigraeste. Little brothers shorts and little sisters singlets. VFL isnt about anything other than that wierd vibe.

Eduardo, don't make jokes like that in the Australian or Archer. Someone will ask if you push back.

Are they that sensitive about Nowra there?

Not half as sensitive as those at Natimuk are, regarding the same subject.

Went to Postman's Tavern in Nowra on the weekend. Great feeds in the restaurant area. Perhaps a touch pricey but the staff are friendly and the food was great...

Though I also went to the pub for dinner the night before...

Almost got into a brawl because the waitress served us someone else's meal... the disgruntled customer assumed that was our fault and wanted to get into a fight over it... quite laughable really...

Sorry about that...didn't realise you were a climber, :)

My research of this thread so far has come to the overwhelming conclusion that climbers only go to a pub for eating in...or pizza for takeaway.
And here I was thinking we only ate lettuce leaves and two grains of rice....

I go to either of the dodgy noodle joints. Cheap carbs and a coke for 12 bucks , ready in 5min. Classy.

Rick, from researching your posts I have come to the overwhelming conclusion that you shouldn't make conclusions from reading chockstone threads...

I go for the specials in the red light area, but I overheard a rotund man from Natimuk raving about the specials he finds at the back of the Nowra public toilets. You wouldn't believe how many cheap climbing krabs he has scored there. Really classy.

Mostly because it irritates the locals when you start bagging the place :)

Still, he sounds just like you - "look at all these crags within 3 hours of my place" I must admit, it's terribly hard living 10 minutes from one of the world's best crags and an hour from the gazillion crags in the Gramps. I get so little climbing done. And you can bag out Horsham as much as you like. I'll join in.

I have eaten at the indian on kinghorne st. It is very good. But good indian is getting surprisingly easy to find. We had some in Benalla on the way to Nowra last year. Good coffee on the other hand - all the way to Frog and back via the inland roads last year and not a decent coffee the whole time.

Hyper Hyper for good Coffee, across the road from the Australian Hotel. The hipsters behind the counter will treat you with disdain but they'll serve you a great coffee.

I forgot Eel City, the fishing spot in the swampy end of Bomaderry Creek and the short drive or train trip to Mick Cronins pub.

When I think about it actually I've had way worse experiences with locals in the Blueys and Natimuk.

The route names definitely don't help the reputation. I had a hilarious idea to do a "Nowra Climb Name or Famous Pornographic Film" quiz and I went through the crag looking for only the most depraved route names. After bombaderry creek alone I had a shortlist of 40 or so, gave up on the idea in horror, washed my mouth out with soap, and curled up in the foetal position praying for Graeme Hill's immortal soul.

Ive heard at least two kids have got in trouble at school for going to show and tell and saying stuff like "On the weekend I climbed Murdoch The Horse F-er!" and "We went to Nowra and mummy did Wham Bam Thank You Mam!" I'll admit that's hilarious.

Careful. The mods will be after you if you bad mouth their local mates, but if it is shorty yoou are talking about, then it don't matter as he is happy to be in most things so is fair game.

Ay dude, I didn't know you were into train surfing. You must know a trick or two because you are still with us.

I have nothing but fond memories of my yearly winter trips to Norwa!

Enjoyed the climbing, the socializing, the camping at Julian's site behind the coal burners, on rest days buying a slab of apple strudel from the bakehouse at North Nowra shops and watching others flail at South Central. Even getting dropped by f_abe or finding the dead body hasn't dampened my memories of the place...
