Shit happens. What do you do with yours?

The Access Fund came up with this helpful info graphic:

Oddly, the option I see the most evidence of (make a giant pile right next to the path and stick some paper in it like a flag) isn't listed...

Classic.

Did you ever see the ATO guidelines for toilet use that they had to stick on the back of cubicle doors?

No I didn't.

This has however reminded me of a classic euphemism for pissing in bush: a lass with a New Zealand accent said she was "Off to shake the wet lettuce".

Pretty sure this technique started a fire at Araps one year...

Yes, burning tp has started more than 1 fire at Arapiles. It's a really silly thing to do. Bury it properly or carry it out.

FTFY.

To be honest I'm amazed that someone really needs to have it explicitly outlined to them that setting fire to things that might fly out of their hand or blow away at any moment is a bad idea. I mean, maybe they hold onto their shitty bog roll a bit tighter than I do, but still... This country has some of the most flammable flora in the world. I don't understand why you'd burn your TP anyway, but here of all places?

This is context dependent. In Australia, burning TP in the bush is a pretty obvious fire hazard. But, I lived in Costa Rica for a year in a somewhat isolated (but not terribly isolated) village, and everyone burned all of their TP. It was just a part of normal life. The sewage treatment systems couldn't handle TP, so you would store the TP in a waste bucket next to the toilet, and every week you would burn the contents. Smelled great!

And one of my favourite euphemisms:

Have to drop the kids off at the pool.

Just cause I know you guys love to hear about this stuff ...

Way better than carrying out tampons and pads is just to not to use the horrible things in the first place. Menstrual cups just don't seem to have a following in Australia, and I have no idea why. No waste. One off expense. Empty and go. No carrying stuff out. Much lower risk of toxic shock.

This was the cheapest one one the market last time I looked http://www.fleurcup.com/en

I've never really been mountaineering, but a good friend who does swears by those 1/2lt screw top Gatorade jars (empty)

Oh, and here's a (vaguely) related article from the SMH:
Sydney ratepayers to spend a pretty penny on pop-up urinals

Fascinating Wendy....I like to think of myself as a pretty worldly dude....but I have never heard or thought about these things.

Ahh, but now next time you are stuck on a big wall with a girl complaining about how shit it is to deal with tampons, you can let her know these things are way better.

Really, you hear way more stuff about pregnancy and outdoor activity than periods and outdoor activity, but in reality, almost every woman between 12 and 50 has to deal with this every month, and why noone ever promotes the advantages of cups escapes me. I see women carrying pad and tampons out or burning them when they could just use a cup for much less fuss and grossness. Burning old blood, cotton and plastic is pretty foul. A bag full of used tampons is pretty foul. The impact on the environment of the production and disposal of 17000 or so disposable cotton products is pretty foul. Up there with disposable nappies.

On a similar note for the climbers heading to India.

Be very careful where you pee. Unlike Australia people seem to do it everywhere so I went to a discrete wall to pee. Mid stream a guy came out and started to scream at me. I simply replied that it is India and it seems the thing to do. He said yes but this is the fence of a temple!

Well in Mexico they encourage it. Story goes that on a road trip back in the day I was having a beer with a mate an off the road town iand we'd had a weird night dealing with dodgy restaurant owners as to the origin of their squid. So anyways we were sitting on the balcony of the poshest part of town (where a beer cost a dollar fifty) overlooking the historic town squAre, when this dude in the middle of all the town square crowds just flops it out and starts squirting it proudly in the air all over statues, gardens and twisting around to get maximum spread.

We being a bit lagered up thought this would be a fun time to take the piss (ie human to human version of a troll) so we left our distinguished bar bought a takeaway and plonked ourselves down on a park bench next to mr squirts. We came up with a cunning plan to shame him and asked him (in Spanish) 'excuse me do you know if there is a bathroom nearby). He looked at us in bewilderment and said "here here who cares'. And so we did in squirterific adoration of our master.
